Disabled access and facilities in museums and tourist spots

 

These pages have been created to help you get accurate reliable and unbiased information about the accessibility of tourist spots and facilities in the Pays de Montbeliard, whatever the deficiencies may be.

Since 2006, the Tourist Office has been taking all the necessary steps to make the stay of disabled visitors easier.

A committee has been created and is specialized in visiting the tourist spots and facilities of the Pays de Montbeliard area. So far the following tourist spots have been visited:  

In Montbéliard :
- Museum of the Castle of the Dukes of Württemberg 
- Museum of Art and History Beurnier Rossel
- Sciences Pavilion

In Audincourt :
- Sacré Coeur and Immaculée Conception churches

In Sochaux :
- Peugeot Adventure museum

Museum of the Castle of the Dukes of Wurttemberg - Montbéliard

Public car park: just 200m from the museum, 2 spaces are allocated to disabled visitors. Concrete surface and cobblestone pavement from the car park to the museum.
Reception: the team members are aware of the difficulties disabled visitors may face and are ready to help.
Entrance: 6 steps lead to the museum, there is a very steep ramp slope (about 17%). The team comes and helps people who use wheelchairs as it is necessary to open both double manual swing doors to let the wheelchair in. Clear opening width: 120 cm. No bell to ring.
Lift: once you are in the museum, there is a lift: door width: 79 cm, inside width is 110cm and depth is 140cm. Please note that the lift cannot be used unless a team member of the museum is present.
Stairs: Stairs have no contrasted colour stair nosing, there is a banister.  
The museum: the flooring of the museum is either wood or tiled flooring. It's easy to move around. All the rooms showing temporary exhibitions, the Cuvier gallery and most of the heritage trail (guided tour only, in French only) are accessible to disabled visitors except the kitchen and the Henriette Tower.
Toilets: meet requirements except there is no transfer system just a handrail.
Lighting: indirect lighting system, windows equipped with lighting control system.

Sacré Coeur and Immaculée Conception churches - Audincourt

Sacré Coeur church :
Parking spaces
in front of the church among which 2 spaces are allocated to disabled visitors (about 30m from the entrance doors).
Access ramps: the two access ramps are steeper than usual, one of the ramp has a banister. Stairs have a contrasted colour stair nosing.
Entrance: manual double swing doors, clear opening width: 135 cm.
The church: within the church, there is level access to all parts of the church but the baptistery (two steps). The stained-glass windows of the baptistery can be admired without going down the stairs.
Toilets: no toilets.
Lighting: stained-glass windows let a soft light flow in the church.

Immaculée Conception church :
Parking spaces in front of the church, one space allocated to disabled visitors
Access ramp: long access ramp with a banister on the right side of the church.
The church: Partially sighted or blind people may touch a model church.
Toilets: no toilets.

Peugeot Adventure Museum - Sochaux

Private car park with spaces allocated to disabled visitors.
Reception: the team members are aware of the difficulties disabled visitors may face and are ready to help.
Entrance: the access ramp meets requirements. You will proceed through  double manual swing doors, clear opening width for a door: 76cm. Since entrance is situated in front of the reception desk, the team comes and opens the doors for disabled visitors.
In the museum, it's easy to move around since the museum is situated on a single floor and has smooth flooring and wide alleys.
Information signs: information signs are correct but placed rather far down making it difficult for disabled visitors to get nearer.
Toilets: accessible to disabled visitors, no transfer system. The support rail is placed at an height of 95cm and the mirror at 110cm.
Lighting: soft indirect lighting.

Sciences Pavilion, Galilée area - Montbéliard

Public car park situated just 50m from the entrance, 2 spaces are allocated to disabled visitors.
Reception: the team members are aware of the difficulties disabled visitors may face and are used to assist them.
Entrance: there is a 2cm threshold, manual doors with clear opening width: 120cm. Then there is level access to all the exhibition rooms.
Exhibition rooms: it's easy to move around, the exhibitions rooms have smooth floring. Exhibition signs may sometimes be translated in Braille or have a Sign Language version. Please ask reception for further information.
Public disabled toilets: door width: 80cm opening outside the toilets. No transfer system but a handrail towards the left. The wash basin is placed at an height of 70cm, and the mirror at an height of 120 cm.
Lighting: indirect and semi-direct lighting.
Information: Sciences Pavilion

Museum of Art and History Beurnier Rossel - Montbéliard

A former mansion houses the museum, there are a few steps leading to this 3-storey museum and no lift.

Parking spaces: no private parking but spaces are allocated to disabled visitors on the public car park opposite the museum.
Reception: the team members are aware of the difficulties disabled visitors may face and are ready to help.
Entrance: manual door, ancient cobblestone floor in the entrance hall and then two steps to get to the museum itself.
Toilets: no public disabled toilets.
Lighting : indirect lighting system, windows equipped with lighting control system.
