Journées Européennes du Patrimoine dans le Pays de Montbéliard

The fortieth edition of the European Heritage Days (JEP), taking place on the weekend of 16 and 17 September 2023, will focus on living heritage.

Songs, dances, gastronomy, storytelling, craft skills... all these practices make up living heritage, recognised twenty years ago with the signing, in 2003, of the first UNESCO convention aimed at safeguarding and disseminating it.

The associations and cultural players in the Montbéliard region are joining in this anniversary celebrations by offering a number of
events on this theme. At the theatre in Mandeure, workshops in weaving, dyeing, woodturning, rope-making, glass bead-making and ceramics illustrate the skills of craftsmen in ancient times. In Montbéliard, the Le Diairi choir is working to preserve traditional songs and costumes, in conjunction with the exhibition "Des coiffes et nous, mémoires de territoire" (Headdresses and us, memories of the region), which presents the diairi wedge, the emblematic headdress worn by Protestant women in the Montbéliard region, and explores the image of the Diaichotte, a symbol of the region. Local gastronomic specialities will be in the spotlight for the first edition of the gourmet days and walk. The bookbinding and gilding workshop, set up in the Maison de la Jeunesse et de la Culture in Sochaux, invites visitors to discover a centuries-old skill. Finally, in Valentigney, storytellers will stimulate the public's imagination with tales and legends. These days are also an opportunity to visit or revisit the monuments, buildings, sites, museums, institutions and exhibitions that make up the Pays de Montbéliard's heritage landscape, and to preview the remarkable architecture of its new music, dance and drama conservatory.
