The Bar des sciences is offering a series of 3 events on the subject of money during the month of June.
Second event: "Does money smell?" with Gaëtan Mangin, a researcher associated with the LIR3S and attached to the University of Burgundy Europe.
The idea we have of money is that of a cold, neutral standard, representing no more than a means of giving value to our exchanges. Sociologist Gaëtan Mangin will be looking at the symbolic and emotional dimensions of money, based on his research into contemporary consumption (particularly the use of cars and consumer credit). Does the money we earn through our daily work have the same flavour as the money we win by playing the lottery?
Is the monetary value we place on our purchases based solely on our needs or also on our feelings? Are we really that rational about our money? On the contrary, isn't our money the source and/or indicator of ever-increasing passions?
