In today's hectic, half-apocalyptic world, talking about time can seem like a waste of time. Why dwell on the past when we could simply be living in the present, as the future keeps reminding us just how bleak it is?
But with This Is The Kit, aka Kate Stables, singer-songwriter / banjoist / pinhole photo enthusiast, we're going to have to give time a modicum of consideration. Because not only is Kate still around, making albums of cataclysmic honesty and warm tonal embraces, but they're still growing.
This Is The Kit's music puts company front and centre, both on record and in concert with its stellar supporting cast of Rozi Plain (bass), Jamie Whitby-Coles (drums) and Neil Smith (guitar). Joyful survival as a waste of time act, you'd take it any day of the week. Listening to This Is The Kit on at least one day of your week this year will be time well wasted.

A multi-instrumentalist with a haunting voice, Blumi (real name Emma Broughton) is gradually unveiling her solo project after a rich career in the service of her peers.
Her distinctive voice has led her to collaborate with artists such as Bon Iver and Feist, for whom she provides backing vocals, as well as touring (on bass, vocals and synths) with Thousand, Orouni and Olivier Marguerit. With their support, Emma draws on the resources needed to polish her songs, which she presents as sculptures patiently carved out of a block of raw metal, shaped in the manner of a craftsman.
The result is a singular, radical presence, a music suspended between tradition and modernity, both timeless and in tune with the times, embodied in songs that will haunt us for a long time to come.
After a critically acclaimed debut EP, Blumi are currently recording a second EP, and will be touring France in March, supporting The Divine Comedy.
