Concert : Le Do de l'âme

By the Conservatoire du Pays de Montbéliard. These two quintets in C major pay a real 'collateral tribute' to an emblematic chamber music formation, where the addition of a second cello adds a singular depth of sound and weaves a subtle link between the instruments.

While the formation of two violins, two violas and a cello has become the standard for string quintets over the years, Luigi Boccherini composed no fewer than 113 quintets for two cellos before opting for the formula with two violas. Franz Schubert's two-cello quintet was the last work of his chamber music, written in 1828 - an intense, deeply expressive piece.
