Conférence et concert du Temple Saint-Martin

Les chants liturgiques presents a lecture-concert on 23 April at 6pm.

The liturgical chants of the Temple Saint-Martin -
From its inauguration to the end of the XIXᵉ century

From the inauguration of the Temple Saint-Martin in 1607, the Lutheran liturgical chant there presented particularities linked to the initial absence of an organ (built only in 1755-1756) and the abundant use of Calvinist psalms and canticles taken from the Geneva Psalter (or Huguenot Psalter).

The lecture will look back at these singular repertoires and practices:
from Psalm CXXII 'Incontinent que j'eus ouy', sung at the inauguration on 18 October 1607, to Martin Luther's Hymni oder Geistliche Lieder Teutsch und Französisch - Hymns or German and French spiritual songs by Martin Luther and other Doctors of the Church, published by Jacques Foillet in Montbéliard in 1618 - and the new revised and corrected selections of psalms and canticles for use in the churches, schools and families of the Montbéliard Inspectorate, compiled by Georges Kuhn and Henry Duvernoy and published in Montbéliard by Deckherr in 1847-1848.

Denis Morrier's talk will be illustrated by songs created for the Temple Saint-Martin, performed by students from the Conservatoire du Pays de Montbéliard.
