GALLO-ROMAN THEATRE

Take a seat in the centre of this vast circus, 142 metres in diameter, which once had 4 tiers of bleachers. Imagine 17,000 spectators surrounding you. The clamour of the audience is comparable to that which animated the Colosseum in Rome at the same time. Across the millennia, the emotion is alive and well. Associated with a temple facing it, the hillside edifice was an integral part of a sacred enclosure, a major place of pilgrimage in antiquity. The site is open all year round. More than 5,000 items excavated from the site are kept in the Château de Montbéliard museum.
