Jazz is a storm.
Having explored world music and ventured into the world of jazz standards, the BABZ Quartet now turns its attention to the music of the great Charles Mingus.
Mingus left his mark on the history of jazz through his compositions and legendary recordings as a bandleader, double bassist and pianist. An eccentric musician with a strong-willed character, Mingus drew inspiration from the social anger of Black Americans in his time. The result is highly energetic music that at times borders on chaos. This new area of exploration has inspired the BABZ to create some original compositions, whilst leaving room for improvisation.
